Evidence and insightsInclusion and accessibility

What is it?

The Connecting Communities strategy sets out a pan‑Northern approach to making transport more inclusive. It focuses on improving access to jobs, services and opportunities, especially for people and places that are currently underserved.

How is it useful?

It helps combined authorities and partners plan transport that works for everyone. Use it to shape policies, target investment and develop schemes that reduce barriers to travel and improve access across the North.

Key points

  • Transport plays a key role in access to opportunity and quality of life
  • Barriers such as cost, availability and accessibility affect how people travel
  • Improving connectivity can help reduce inequality and social exclusion
  • A joined‑up, multi‑modal approach is needed to support inclusive growth
