What is it?
The Severance Visualiser shows how major roads and railways can make it harder for people to walk to everyday services. It maps where communities are most affected by severance across England, highlighting areas with high, medium or low levels of impact. The tool measures how key transport infrastructure affects access to services and summarises severance for every affected neighbourhood.

How is it useful?
The visualiser helps combined and local authorities understand where severance is a problem and who is most affected. It supports the design and targeting of schemes that reduce barriers to walking, improve access to services and tackle transport‑related social exclusion.
