Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Framework
Back to Resource HubEvidence and insightsDecarbonisation
What is it?
The Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Framework sets out a regional approach to planning EV charging across the North. It uses transport, land use and population data to show where and when charging infrastructure is needed, based on how people travel.
How is it useful?
It helps authorities and partners plan joined‑up charging networks and coordinate investment across boundaries. Use it to inform local strategies, support funding bids and work with energy and private sector partners to deliver the right infrastructure in the right place.
Key findings
- A whole network, whole system approach is needed to plan EV charging effectively
- Significant growth in charging points is required through the 2020s
- A mix of home, public and rapid charging is needed to reflect different journeys
- Charging must be planned alongside energy networks, land use and travel demand to support a fair transition
